Employment Opportunity: Family Home Child Care Consultant
This position is part-time (20 hours/week) and term (expected end date: Aug 31, 2026).
The Consultant role reports to the Executive Director and supports the Family Home Child Care Providers, approved with the agency in Pictou County, Antigonish County, and Guysborough County, through pedagogical leadership, resource support, regulatory understanding, and regular and meaningful communication and home visits. In addition to being an accomplished educator, the role requires excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills. The role necessitates understanding and adherence to best practices in Early Childhood Education. The position is located at the Family Home Child Care Society in Stellarton, NS.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold an Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree
- Have a current classification Level 2/3 under NS DEECD
- Have 2 years+ experience in regulated child care settings
- Have basic word processing, spreadsheet, and technological experience
- Have above average communication skills (written and oral)
- Possess a valid NS Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle
- Be a motivated, reliable, self-starter who enjoys being part of a passionate team
- Previous experience as a Family Home Child Care Provider is an asset
Wages will be commensurate with education and experience under the Nova Scotia Early Childhood Educator Wage Scale.

Who Can Be A FHCCS Care Provider?
A Child Care Provider is a self-employed individual who devotes his/her time to caring for children in their own home. They provide a stable influence and are committed to providing a safe, engaging, wholesome and nurturing environment for the children in their care. Each home can care for a maximum of seven children at any given time, with no more than three under the age of 3 and no more than two infants (under the age of 18 months), or up to nine children if all school aged.
What are the Requirements?
- Must be 18 years of age minimum and be reliable, dependable, mature, responsible, and fun-loving.
- Potential Child Care Provider and anyone else who resides in the home over the age of 18 must obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. (every 3 years)
- Potential Child Care Provider and anyone else who resides in the home over the age of 13 must obtain a Child Abuse Registry Check. (every 3 years)
- Home Liability Insurance must be obtained.
- An in-home orientation and inspection will be completed before approval.
- All Child Care Providers must have First Aid Training (Level C), which is paid for by the Agency.
- Must complete Level 1 of The Family Home Child Care Training within a year of approval and must attend a minimum of 5 hours of Professional Development per year. (Training is provided/paid by the Agency)
